Tabou started in March 1990 by producing of excellent quality radical custom windsurf and surf boards, which quickly became popular in Europe.
“Tabou production boards started in 1993 when Bic Sport came to ask me to shape their production boards and team rider boards. The first boards I shaped for them were the Bic Vivace and since then I’ve shaped all their boards even the very successful Techno line."
"Last year talking with Knut Budig (owner of Gaastra sails), we both thought that there was room on the market for a brand like Tabou to grow and to be one of the market leaders in the near future” says shaper Fabien Vollenweider. Tabou’s primary focus is developing boards that perform well and are easy to use for beginners through to professionals.
Tabou is now owned by two windsurfer’s - shaper Fabien Vollenweider and Knut Budig (ex junior windsurf world champion). These guys know what the market needs and have a passion for windsurfing just like you!

Back by popular demand, Tabou’s 3S line is designed to balance three styles: freestyle, freemove and wave. Up until now most freestyle waveboards have been born out of classic down-the-line wave shapes. Impressively, Tabou changes the mold, combining freestyle with the new-school stubby wave design (like Tabou’s Pocket Wave) to create a truly modern freestyle wave.
The 97-litre 3S is all about showing off when the wind comes up. It excels in high winds, preferring to be ridden with smaller sails. With a stocky shape, it likes a hips-in, front-foot-weighted stance demanded by most modern freestyle-capable boards.
The 3S planes up early and exhibits a lively but stable ride. Not super fast or particularly directional, this board asks to be turned without limitations. Aspiring aerialists will have no trouble popping when powered, and its cutaway ramp tail and tucked rails prevent it from catching on sliding aerials. The 97 spins quickly and is suited for all high-flying tricks thrown its way. Anyone preferring a more grounded transition will find the 3S has ample to offer. Needing more power and effort to initiate, the 3S rips through a pivoty jibe with excellent ability to keep speed. A rounded tail section and plenty of vee grip this 3S in both aggressive nose-weighted jibes and slashier jibes on the tail.
The 3S is an excellent all-around bump-and-jumper with top-notch freestyle ability. This board provides an excellent complement to anyone owning smaller wide-style waveboards.
Plus: Any type of freestyle, highwind control.
