We have been using the Manic (4.7, 5.3, 5.7) in our Barbados quiver this winter. The Manic has blown us away with it's light feel, range and awesome handling - ask us how the Manic will work for you.
Down-the-line perfection The Manic returns with a furious energy. A Dacron luff panel provides an elastic free “feel,” that helps twist the leech in aggressive cutbacks. Perimeter tension is developed to deliver the perfect balance of top end range and bottom end thrust. The combination of the elastic free “feel” luff design and perfect sail tension make the Manic come alive. Shorter boom lengths and lower clew grommets are perfectly designed to keep the sailor’s body perfectly square and comfortable, even in the most demanding bottom turns. Strap yourself in tight, the Manic will take you further than you dare to go. Sailing Style Sideshore waveriding and jumping, Bump & Jump, highwind freestyle, and high wind freeriding
TRI RADIAL LOCK SHAPE Integrated in each sail, gives better performance with a better load distribution. This scientific design adds longer life to the profile of the sail with unmatched stability.

With the changing of the sail designer, comes a dramatic new feel to the 2006 Manic. Easier rigging and trimming allows for many different tuning options.
You can set the sail up to rig full for light winds and flatten it off for windier conditions. It does not have the backhand power like last years model but the light and neutral handling make it a highly attractive candidate for any sailor.
Built to be used in radical side shore conditions the 2006 Manic is very suitable for the average sailor. The balance and control leads us for the first time to recommend this sail for standard North sea conditions. In gusty and rough conditions the Manic is one of the top favorites in the field.
The Manic scored a perfect 10 in the control department. With regard to construction the Manic leaves no wishes unfulfilled having rubber linings protecting the seams and a wear and tear shield around the clew hole. The all new Manic lacks nothing from any modern sail.
Design Brief - The totally redesigned 2006 Gaastra sail range features new materials and improvements throughout, maximizing performance and durability, while minimizing weight.
Take a look at the numbers...a 5.0 Manic weighs only 3.4kgs, but still yields incredible strength and durability. The real key behind this high strength to weight ration lies in the guts of each sail’s design.
Primary load seams are kept running in parallel with the internal stresses. Buried beneath the stylish graphic appearance, all skin seams radiate out from the head tack or clew in a Tri-Radial manner. You won’t find this sensible solution elsewhere in the industry, where graphic “looks” dominate over performance. Here at Gaastra we carefully engineer our panel layouts to be driven by function.
Every item that is sewn or stuck to our sails has been weighed, analyzed and catalogued. This database allows us to choose exactly the right materials to get the job done. It is this technical design, and our scientific approach, that allows us to shave grams off our total weights, while still maintaining the durability that has made Gaastra famous.
“In the last year, sails I designed shattered the coveted outright world speedsailing record. It was a fun and exciting challenge for me to lead the sail development. For this season, we have already learned some new tricks to make the sails lighter, faster, and more fun to use. The 2006 Gaastra sails represent our best work yet. I invite you all to give them a try!" --Dan Kaseler |
