We have been using the Poison 5.8 and 6.2 in our Barbados quiver this winter. The Poison has blown us away with it's light feel, improved range, power and handling- ask us how the Poison will work for you.
Real-world wave powerhouse. Once you’ve tasted the new Poison, you’ll be an addict. This sail is designed to excel in the real world sailing conditions found on the world tour, and at your local break. A tighter luff curve, combined with an x-ply luff panel will give you the juice needed to drive hard through your turns. The comfortable plan form, created with a slightly longer boom make the sail an unbeatable solution, whether wave sailing at Hookipa, or bump and jump sailing at your local beach.
TRI RADIAL LOCK SHAPE Integrated in each sail, gives better performance with a better load distribution. This scientific design adds longer life to the profile of the sail with unmatched stability.
Sailing Styles Onshore waveriding and jumping, Bump Jump, highwind freestyle, and high wind freeriding. Sailor Profile Advanced Intermediate to Professional Sailors between 65 – 120 kg.
Board Types Wave boards 65 – 100 ltr. volume Freestyle boards 75 – 100 ltr. volume
Poison 4.7 Translated from German Surf Magazine
If there was an “everybody’s darling” at a wave sail test, the Poison would be very high on everybody’s list. A very balanced mixture of riding behavior and control, Dan Kaseler’s Posion design convinced us it excels in any conditions.
In the Power Wavesail group, it ranks as one of the easiest sails to handle. For a powerful “surfing style” it gives you plenty of drive on the turns to power up any board. Once you open the sail it immediately depowers for smooth and precise cutbacks. Even sensitive wave riders will feel very comfortable with the Poison especially with it tuned flat. This is where the new Gaastra Generation shows its “biggest force.” The rigging range is much greater that before. Rigged full or flat, the sails work equally well. With a full set up, the battens stay flat and the profile shows itself only on demand from the wind pressure when sheeted in slightly. Tuned to the specs, the sail has a rather soft and buffered feel with good pumping ability and a nice feel. When the winds get stronger the power is released and the sail gives very good control in gusty strong winds on flat water or wave conditions.
“Surf Tip”: An all-round wave sails without limits. Powerful and nicely controllable. For onshore or gusty rough Sideshore conditions, this sail is highly recommended.
Design Brief - The totally redesigned 2006 Gaastra sail range features new materials and improvements throughout, maximizing performance and durability, while minimizing weight.
Take a look at the numbers...a 5.0 Manic weighs only 3.4kgs, but still yields incredible strength and durability. The real key behind this high strength to weight ration lies in the guts of each sail’s design.
Primary load seams are kept running in parallel with the internal stresses. Buried beneath the stylish graphic appearance, all skin seams radiate out from the head tack or clew in a Tri-Radial manner. You won’t find this sensible solution elsewhere in the industry, where graphic “looks” dominate over performance. Here at Gaastra we carefully engineer our panel layouts to be driven by function.
Every item that is sewn or stuck to our sails has been weighed, analyzed and catalogued. This database allows us to choose exactly the right materials to get the job done. It is this technical design, and our scientific approach, that allows us to shave grams off our total weights, while still maintaining the durability that has made Gaastra famous.
“In the last year, sails I designed shattered the coveted outright world speedsailing record. It was a fun and exciting challenge for me to lead the sail development. For this season, we have already learned some new tricks to make the sails lighter, faster, and more fun to use. The 2006 Gaastra sails represent our best work yet. I invite you all to give them a try!" --Dan Kaseler |
