MADD 138 & 162

The large MADD boards are the absolute leaders in early-planing performance in the HiFly range. Despite relatively small fins, very large sails can be used. Spinning out is just about impossible, because the short fins together have a fairly large surface and can handle the pressure of the sail. You are always in control, even in very gusty wind conditions. The boards really go upwind well and are very fast.

The plugs for the straps are mounted fairly far inside for both boards, which facilitates an upright and relaxed stance. This helps to keep the board flat on the water, even at high speeds, because the two short fins never make the board come up over the rail. Jibes are accomplished successfully with great ease. Well-mannered but with good speed the MADD glides through the turns. All this contributes to the feeling of riding a considerably smaller board.

The MADD 125 is quite similar in shape to the very well-received MADD 138.  Early planing and maximum control are the basic requirements in this class.  Comfortable sailing and smooth easy jibing top it off.  The Hifly MADD 125 excites with its broad range of use and fascinates with its versatility.
A large footpad and comfortable DaKine footstraps further add to the riding comfort.

The MADD 115 has a huge range of uses – much like the MOVE boards. The 115 is so versatile that not only speeders will enjoy this board. The foot straps are placed closer to the center, providing for a comfortable and relaxed stance when speeding; on the other hand also support a more maneuver-oriented style. Race jibes, carving 360 and other fun moves come easy. A large pad and performance foot straps provide comfort.

As is typical for HiFly, large pads and super comfy foot straps offer the best riding comfort.

Feature: TWINSER

TWINSER: We did not invent them, but we are the only producer of production boards, who incorporates the advantages of the twinser-fins for windsurf boards.

TWINSER-fins are basically immune to spin-outs. With shorter lengths and slender profiles, the two fins handle a great amount of lateral pressure, and, compared to single-fin boards, can handle larger sails. Benefit: More control!

The two fins, which are parallel to each other, are shorter and therefore create less lift than a conventional fin. For this reason, the foot straps can be positioned closer to the center-line, and the sailor, when speeding along, does not need to put very much pressure on the rail. Benefit: Very relaxed sailing and less strain on foot joints.

TWINSER-fins are considerably shorter than single-fin boards with a comparable volume. Benefit: Very suitable for flat water, easy beach start from close to the shore.

TWINSER-fins don’t drag! The specially developed fins by Hifly have a slender profile, which makes them fast and plane early and they feature an excellent upwind performance. There are no performance drawbacks.

With TWINSER-fins having so many benefits, we added yet another board to our range, the
MADD WAVE 83, a wave/ freestyle board. The MADD 90 (freestyle/ wave) and the MADD 162 (freeride) boards have received a complete revision. So in total we now offer eight HiFly-boards with dual fins. Check out the advantages of this system for yourself!

Loved this board. Incredibly comfortable. Loved the shallow fins and crisp, zippy feel. Great acceleration. Loved the turns – it's like a big wave board. It best suits intermediate to advanced sailors.

Incredibly good in everything but the lightest of winds, where it lacked a touch of planing power compared to others. For back and forth blasting, it would be perfect – minus upwind downwind grinding. Really liked not having to worry about shallow water. Best Suits: Any one-kit wonder in any venue. Within its class, it had a slight bias toward higher winds.

First ever ride on twin fin and the thing I liked most was how it jibed. I also like the obvious stuff -- it was a shallow-water weapon and had great control. Thought it had good speed and was decent upwind, though it didn't stand out as a speedy board. It's average in early planing. I thought the board best suited people up to 185 lbs. In light winds, I was surprised to hear the big guys here enjoyed its planing power.

I liked that I didn't have to walk it out as far to jump on thanks to the short twin fins. Couldn't get as high of upwind angle as I wanted. I felt faster than all the other boards on it because it offered so much control. Gave it a 9 for jibing as it corrected all of my mistakes. I found I had to run the mast track back.

The greatest performance enhancement of twin-fins you will notice when you are at the limit – when the wind is too strong or the sail too big. A single fin at high speed produces so much lift that the tails get’s pushed up and the board becomes almost uncontrollable. Loss of speed, uncomfortable riding or even a wipeout is usually the result. To counteract this awkward behavior you are forced to apply a lot of pressure via your ankles to try to get a handle on it.

But all this is not necessary! Shorter fins (with less leverage) result in less lift when sailed at the limit and therefore clearly offer much easier control. With the Twinsers the board always remains controllable and the windward rail does not rise on you. The board just keeps speeding along and you will enjoy the smoother and safer ride, even if your sail is too big or the wind is gusty. One more tip regarding mounting the back (rear?) foot strap: to take some pressure off the tail, you can mount the straps in an angle. In doing so, you automatically shift your weight further forward.

There is yet another, decisive advantage to the Twin-fin setup being capable of handling a lot of foot pressure: No more Spin Out!

Who does not know this unpleasant feeling, when the tail just slides out and tries to overtake you? That’s what happens when the tail is pushed out of tracking or the pressure on the fin becomes too strong (sail too large/ strong wind). The disruption of the water flow prevents a controlled ride and you have to slow down. Same principle applies here: two fins can handle more pressure than one.

Windsurfers who primarily sail in shallower waters will also benefit from the lower draft of a Twinser-board. The MADD 165 for example happily rides with two 36 cm fins at a volume of 165 liters. Similar single fin boards have fin lengths of 50 cm or more. With a Twinser, you get on board quicker and are planing already, when other are still wading through the water.

Two fins also mean more safety. In case one fin breaks, the second allows you to safely get back to shore.

Disadvantaged on the upwind courses? No way! Compared to other Freeride-Boards you are definitely on a par. A Twinser-Board may not be able to reach the extreme angles of a Formula-Board with a 70cm fin, but who wants to do that anyways? The HIFLY MADD’s go upwind very well. At lower speeds our MADD’s are even superior.

Slower than other Freeride-Boards? Again, a definite “No”! Having greater control when at the limit tempts you to further explore your full speed potential!

Jibes with twin-fin – does that even work? It works really well actually! The two little fins allow the MADD’s to turn on a dime. You will be surprised just how easy these boards are to jibe. Even in abruptly initiated jibes the MADD will move right along. Furthermore, the straps are mounted further in, which is a good performance booster in maneuvers as well.
