Rubber flex-joint is the most comfortable base offering the best shock absorption. It deflects a little off of the board center so it is usually not the choice of racers or hard core sailors. The base plate does not separate as on the 2-bolt design so if you are interchanging various rigs you might want to consider that design. The base can be loosened for quick mast track adjustments even in the water. 1-bolt design offers a little more fore/aft adjustment in the mast track than the 2-bolt design.
